Round 8 Jurors

  Veronica Bruceartist and educator, makes use of everyday materials, the circumstance of place and generates work based upon the cycle of building. Bruce’s work explores the architecture of gesture across multiple disciplines of painting, sculpture, installation and video. She received her BFA from the University of Illinois in Urbana – Champaign in 2004 and completed a Master of Fine Arts in Painting from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia in 2011. Bruce became an Instructor in the Contemporary Practices Department at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2013. Her work has been included in exhibitions at the South Shore Art Festival, Robert Bills Contemporary, The Nevica Project, Park Schreck Gallery, with curators Casa Duno, and Aqua Art Miami. Awards include the Artslant Prize 2012 and artist residencies at threewalls Chicago, Bundanon Trust in New South Wales, Australia, and Nida Art Colony of the Vilnius Academy of Arts in Lithuania.
 
Wendi Norris is a San Francisco gallerist who, for the past ten years, has worked with nearly one hundred of the top museums and art centers around the world, placing art in their collections and collaborating on solo and group exhibitions. Wendi curates a pioneering program that includes both modern and contemporary artists who have a multi-cultural foundation that translates across both real and imagined borders/boundaries. She has produced critically-acclaimed exhibitions for artists like Dorothea Tanning, Chitra Ganesh, Remedios Varo, Sean Cordeiro and Claire Healy, Sherin Guirguis, Wolfgang Paalen, and Leonora Carrington, publishing seminal catalogues and fostering much needed scholarship, significantly contributing to surges in their respective markets.
Wendi has an MBA from Georgetown University and BA in International Economics and Spanish from The Ohio State University. Her prior work experience included living and working overseas, primarily leading marketing teams as an executive for technology-based companies.
 
Charlie Hood co-runs Beach London, a gallery and creative agency in Shoreditch. We've worked with some of the world's most exciting illustrators and designers over the past two years. We opened in July 2011, after working on a number of curatorial projects, including Baz and Chaz, and practicing as an artist for a few years. I graduated in 2008 with a degree in Fine Art from Nottingham Trent University. We are currently working on a number of projects for 2014, including some events with Pick Me Up, Somerset House, a skateboarding exhibtion called Scattered Pieces, along with a number of design jobs. 


We're gearing up for Miami and we know you are just as excited as we are for the art world's Grande FĂȘte. This year, we are bringing three-four artists' work with us to exhibit in our booth at Aqua Art Miami, recently acquired by the great people at Art Miami / Context. Expect Aqua to be even better this year while keeping its stellar reputation as the best fair for emerging artists in Miami.

September 3, 6 to 8 p.m.

On Tuesday, September 3, from 6 to 8 p.m., O’Hanlon Center for the Arts will present an open house and reception for its September juried exhibit “Symbols”.  The show runs through September 26, 2013.
“Symbols” will feature abstract and expressionistic mixed media art works that incorporate many types of meaningful symbols, emblems, designs, or crests that are internationally known or personally significant, ancient or modern, and that are integral to the design of the art piece.
Juror Greg Edwards is a painter, lithographer, and pen and ink artist residing in Oakland. He named to serve as a Commissioner for the Cultural Affairs Commission of the City of Oakland in 2002 and his last major project was the 5th Annual Concorso La Fenice, in Venice, Italy, in Fall, 2004. Mr. Edwards currently has drawings on exhibit at Linc Real Art Gallery in San Francisco and paintings installed at Ego Park Gallery in Oakland. Mr. Edwards’ work is also included in a survey exhibition of influential African American artists working in Los Angeles from 1945 through 1990 at The Municipal Art Gallery in Barnsdall Park, Hollywood, .
